چکیده

Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is complicated by tissue motion as well as by weak tissue contrast. The major source of motion is respiration, which can be dealt with by breath-hold imaging or by respiratory triggering. Nevertheless, these commonly used methods are known to have their limitations in terms of patient burden as well as in image quality. We propose a method that allows 3-dimensional (3D) motion-compensated imaging of the bowel in the presence of continued respiratory motion and normal bowel peristalsis. The method is based on a computationally efficient spatiotemporal recursive search cube matching algorithm which allows accurate real-time volumetric motion estimation and compensation for the respiratory motion. We are currently evaluating the application to motioncompensated reconstruction of dynamic contrast-enhanced data of the colon.

Resting-state Functional Connectivity During Controlled Respiratory Cycles Using Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the effect of controlled mouth breathing during the resting state using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Methods: Eleven subjects participated in this experiment in which the controlled “Nose” and “Mouth” breathings of 6 s respiratory cycle were performed with a visual cue at 3T MRI. Voxel-wise seed-to-voxel maps and whole-brain region of i...

Effect of Bias in Contrast Agent Concentration Measurement on Estimated Pharmacokinetic Parameters in Brain Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging Studies

Introduction: Pharmacokinetic (PK) modeling of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) is widely applied in tumor diagnosis and treatment evaluation. Precision analysis of the estimated PK parameters is essential when they are used as a measure for therapy evaluation or treatment planning. In this study, the accuracy of PK parameters in brain DCE...

Dynamic Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) and Diffusion Weighted MR Imaging (DWI) for Differentiation between Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors

Background: Salivary gland tumors form nearly 3% of head and neck tumors. Due to their large histological variety and vicinity to facial nerves, pre-operative diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant parotid tumors are a major challenge for radiologists. Objective: The majority of these tumors are benign; however, sometimes they tend to transform into a malignant form. Functional M...

Free-breathing volumetric fat/water separation by combining radial sampling, compressed sensing, and parallel imaging.

PURPOSE Conventional fat/water separation techniques require that patients hold breath during abdominal acquisitions, which often fails and limits the achievable spatial resolution and anatomic coverage. This work presents a novel approach for free-breathing volumetric fat/water separation. METHODS Multiecho data are acquired using a motion-robust radial stack-of-stars three-dimensional GRE s...

Evaluation of Model-Based Methods in Estimating Dynamic Functional Connectivity of Brain Regions

Today, neuroscientists are interested in discovering human brain functions through brain networks. In this regard, the evaluation of dynamic changes in functional connectivity of the brain regions by using functional magnetic resonance imaging data has attracted their attention. In this paper, we focus on two model-based approaches, called the exponential weighted moving average model and the d...
